About Hua Hin

Hua Hin has been a popular seaside resort with many Thais for over 70 years and is also home to the Thai Royal Family, a fact that Hua Hin residents are justifiably proud. Many of Thailand's rich and famous have bought property here and the resort is a favourite weekend getaway of many Bangkokians. Offering some of the best golfing and beaches in the whole of Thailand, until recently Hua Hin proved to be a well kept secret from foreign tourists and expats.  However, the last few years have seen Hua Hin rapidly grow from a small fishing town into a sophisticated beach resort/city, and whilst losing non of its original charm, has benefited from extensive property development, modern shopping centres, a wide choice of accommodation and facilities, improved infrastructure and education. With its extensive choice of 4 and 5 star hotels and fine dining opportunities Hua Hin has established itself as a sophisticated beach resort, appealing to couples, families and those wishing to retire here in Thailand.

Approximately 3 hours by car from Bangkok (200 kms), Hua Hin offers the best of both worlds. Whilst the capital and all its attractions are within easy reach, Hua Hin residents enjoy beautiful unspoilt beaches, clean air, and a quiet, relaxed and safe environment in which to live and do business.  Hua Hin has one of the best climates in Thailand due to its geographic location, which means minimal rainfall during the rainy season.

Given its climate, relaxed lifestyle, beautiful beaches, clean air and amenities, Hua Hin offers an ideal choice for foreigners seeking a retirement home. The resort is compact, enabling easy access to all parts of the city and beaches are within a few minutes access either on foot or by car. An international level of private health care is available within close proximity, with costs representing a fraction of those back 'home'.

A major attraction of Hua Hin is its golfing opportunities. For keen golfers, Hua Hin offers no less than six world class golf courses within the area, the highest density of golf courses in all of Thailand. It is also a paradise for nature lovers with a number of national parks within easy reach.

Although Hua Hin has always offered a wide selection of deluxe hotels and fine dining, until recently shopping, entertainment and educational services were a little limited. However, since the opening of establishments like Tesco Lotus and Hua Hin Market Village, residents of Hua Hin now have everything available on their doorstep, including cinemas and a bowling alley, and a vast selection of eateries and bars.

Access to good quality education for their children is understandably a major concern for many potential residents. In response to demand, Somtawin School Hua Hin, recently opened a private English Program, for those students who wish to receive an international standard of education, with all subjects taught in English. There are also several schools currently offering Mini English Programs (MEP), which consist of several subjects (usually Maths and Science) taught in English, the rest in Thai.

Despite its growth and development Hua Hin's beaches and surrounding areas remain largely unspoilt and still give the flavour of rural Thailand. What Hua Hin lacks in terms of discos and all night entertainment venues, it makes up for in its appeal to those who are seeking a quieter but charming resort, full of seafood restaurants, cafes and golfing. Situated in the province of Prachuab Kirikhan, just a few kilometres down the road going south from Hua Hin, you find yourself in the Pranburi area famous for its Pineapple plantations, and one of the most beautiful national parks, Sam Roi Yod. Going north towards Bangkok, approximately 20 minutes drive from Hua Hin (25kms), you reach the smaller seaside resort Cha Am, a favourite with young Thais at the weekend.  Bangkok and the south of Thailand are easily accessible by car, bus and train, as Hua Hin is the transportation hub of the area. An efficient, frequent bus and mini bus service runs between Hua Hin and Bangkok and numerous daily VIP buses ply the roads going south.
